My Approaches To Psychotherapy: Therapy Modalities

Helping you create lasting, positive change in your life.

My Approaches To Psychotherapy: Therapy Modalities

I utilize a variety of evidence-based techniques tailored to your individual needs, including Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI).  Each approach has unique strengths and applications.

But what does each one mean? And how can they benefit you?

I sincerely believe in your capacity for growth and transformation. You can change, and I’m here to guide you. Together, we’ll uncover your strengths, address your challenges, and build a path toward a more fulfilling and authentic life.

Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT)

CBT asserts that thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are interconnected. In therapy, I’ll help you identify and challenge unhelpful thought patterns. Changing your thoughts can change your feelings and behaviors, leading to positive change.

Ideal Outcomes of CBT:

  • Reduced symptoms of depression, anxiety, trauma, eating disorders, and substance abuse.
  • Improved coping skills for stress, impulses, and difficult emotions.
  • Increased self-awareness around your inner dialogue and core beliefs.

Studies of Effectiveness

CBT is considered the gold standard of psychotherapy, with extensive research supporting its effectiveness for a wide range of mental health concerns.

“No other form of psychotherapy is systematically superior to CBT; if there are systematic differences between psychotherapies, they typically favor CBT.”

You can read more about CBT’s effectiveness here.

Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)

SFBT focuses on your strengths and abilities to find solutions rather than dwelling on problems or past traumas. We’ll work together to build on your successes, create meaningful goals, and develop practical strategies to achieve them.

Ideal Outcomes of SFBT:

  • Constructing meaningful, achievable goals with your therapist.
  • Developing healthy self-esteem and a sense of empowerment.
  • Gaining control over challenging mental health conditions like depression and anxiety.

Studies of Effectiveness:

Research shows that SFBT is effective in addressing internal struggles like anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem.

Motivational interviewing (MI)

MI is a collaborative approach that helps you explore your motivations for change.  It’s beneficial for individuals who are ambivalent about change, have low confidence, or are unsure of the benefits. MI balances supportive listening with gentle guidance, empowering you to make positive choices.

Ideal Outcomes of MI:

  • Gaining clarity about your motivations for change.
  • Increased confidence in making decisions and taking ownership of your life.
  • Overcoming negative behaviors like smoking, excessive drinking, or overeating.
  • Establishing positive behaviors like healthy eating, regular exercise, and self-care.

MI Study Effectiveness:

Studies show that MI is highly effective in helping individuals overcome negative behaviors and adopt healthier habits.
